Frequently asked questions
- Is Swissvignette a government agency?
- No. Swissvignette is an independent commercial service operated by a private company. It has no affiliation with the Swiss Confederation, the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security or the official Via portal.
- Why is the total CHF 48.00 and not CHF 40.00?
- CHF 40.00 is the official charge for the e-vignette. The additional CHF 8.00 is a service fee covering order handling, verification of the details supplied and support in four languages. The e-vignette is available without this fee directly at via.admin.ch.
- Is a windscreen sticker issued?
- No. The e-vignette is electronic and linked to the licence plate. There is no sticker and nothing to collect or display.
- What happens if the licence plate was entered incorrectly?
- Contact us immediately quoting the order reference. The order can be corrected before it is submitted. Once the e-vignette has been registered to a plate it cannot be amended or transferred.
- Is a separate vignette required for a trailer?
- Yes. A trailer or caravan requires its own vignette, including when towed by a vehicle that already holds one.
- What is the validity period?
- The annual vignette is valid for 14 months: from 1 December of the preceding year until 31 January of the following year.
- Can an order be cancelled?
- An order can be cancelled free of charge until it has been submitted for registration. After registration the official charge is non-refundable; the service fee is refunded where an order failed or was submitted incorrectly through our error. See the cancellation policy.
- How is personal data handled?
- Only the data required for the order is collected: vehicle category, country of registration, licence plate and e-mail address. Card details are transmitted directly to the payment provider. See the privacy policy.
